The Art Of Boredom
There’s nothing to do and nowhere to go. So, I’ll check my “to do” list again just to make double sure I did check off everything. It’s all checked off. Awesome. I know, I’ll see what’s on TV…boring, boring, no, boy that looks fun if I was five; everybody hates Raymond, isn’t there anything on? Besides sports and that wing nut on Fox News? I’d rather soak my eyeballs in salt water. Well, that was fun not watching TV. I guess it was nice thumb exercise.
I’ll go outside I guess. It’s not raining yet. Grab the dog, where are my shoes, where are my shoes, there are my shoes! Ah, leg itches. Oh it’s cold, jacket? Jacket? Found it. Oh, it’s so nice out! Nice out meaning it’s not pouring down rain. When lo and behold, pouring down rain, two blocks from the house. Sweet. Come on Boots, back inside. They don’t let you bring dogs into that park anyway.
It’s already two-thirty and I have done nothing with my day off. I guess I could go somewhere. How much money do I have? Nothing but twenty-seven cents and a wrinkled, expired Max ticket. What is there to drive to anyway? The mall? HA! Not even. The arcade? Done that about a thousand times this week. Everything else it either a grocery store or not fun when I’m by myself. Screw it, I just feel like staying home anyway.
Jesus, what time is it, four thirty? I haven’t eaten anything all day. What do we have? Cereal, muffin mix, and beef soup. Cereal sounds good! Oh but there’s no milk of any kind, so I can’t make muffins either. Plus, there aren’t any eggs or muffin cup things. Or I could have pasta I guess, but there’s no sauce. There’s only one piece of lasagna pasta anyway. Hm, well there are bananas, and a yogurt. A smoothie sounds good. But there’s no soy or almond milk so never mind. I’m so hungry, and I don’t have any money. I don’t really want to go grocery shopping either because I have no money. I don’t want to go to the bank because it’s a Friday evening and the bank is at the mall. I’d rather not be stuff in a traffic jam in a mall parking lot for two hours just to get twenty dollars out of the bank.
This is really lame. There is nothing to do, nowhere to go worth going, and nothing to eat. I wonder if anybody is available. Where’s my phone? Not on the counter. I’ll check my room. Not there, maybe it’s under here. Under the blankets? No. Over here? No. Under---oh that’s where that was! Oh, I feel it vibrate. Pocket. Someone calling me? No, alarm clock. I’ll text Megan, oh wait she’s at rugby. Brad? I bet he’s busy doing nothing, let’s see what he’s up to. “Text message sent!” waiting…waiting…waiting. No, he wants to stay home. Do I want to drive all the way? No, not really.
Well, I do have all of that stuff I need to sew. I’ll get all of that together. I’ll put this patch on this jacket, these on these pants, patch up these holes and sew some material to this jacket and this skirt. Oh, and this shirt is too big, I should resize that too. Finally I have something to do! I’ll just sew all of this stuff until dinnertime. Then I can watch good TV afterwards. All right, I need to pin everything how I want it. Okay that’s done and now I can sew. Wait, where did my thread go? That’s right, I ran out of every color but orange. Oh well, I’ll just hand sew everything. That will keep me busier anyway. Yeah, I’ll just do everything by hand…with the needles I completely left in Wilsonville. Crap! Oh that’s awesome; I’m out of floss anyway. Well, there goes that idea. Maybe I can just stud my vest up. I just got those in the mail. But where the pliers? Did dad take them to work? He probably did. Well, never mind that either.
I could go on the computer for the rest of the night. That’s always a good boredom buster. Lets see, MySpace is always a good start. But there’s nobody on. I don’t have any comments or messages. I don’t even like MySpace really. I’ll try Flickr. There’s nothing new on that. I don’t even take photos anymore. YouTube is not that great anymore. I’m too bored to even think of anything to look for. I guess I’ll just sit here for a while and turn on some music. My ITunes has so mush stuff on it; I don’t even know what to pick out. What do you know? I’m already back to being bored out of my mind in a matter of seconds. Nobody is at home, nothing is on, there’s nothing to do. Nothing nothing nothing.
I guess it’s back to sitting around on the couch trying to come up with something to do. Sitting, sighing the 500th long, drawn out, deep sigh; the sigh of indescribable boredom. How do I have nothing to do on my day off? Is this some kind of sick joke? Could I have planned this out any worse? Apparently it’s time to do the dishes mom says. “Clean the kitchen! Load the dishwasher.” At least she’s giving me something to do when I’m not in the middle of already doing something. I’m going to go lay in my room.
Boy, doing absolutely nothing all day is exhausting. This blanket is kind of cold. I’m glad I found this sweet bedspread. God I’m bored. I guess I could get up and play a video game. I only have one though. Eh, I don’t know if I really want to do that. Is there any ice cream in the freezer? No? Oh here’s vanilla and no chocolate sauce. Score, not! What time is it? Oh, two-thirty? Damn, and I have work tomorrow at eight AM. Time to go to bed now. Boy, what a day off.

its amazing.
i love victoria so much. however, on my 2nd day year my source of cash was cut off. i'm still having fun though. darth vader played Banned From The Pubs on violin for me. i watched a bunch of street performers, walked a shitload, and ate a bunch of food. foods better here than in oregon, hands down, except for the strawberries. there arent any punk shows though. atleast there arent any i know of and i've only seen like 2 or 3 punk kids the whole time. found a bunch of comic book stores and 2 record stores. drinking and smoing age is 19 apparently.
